‘Preschool Power:’ A New Permanent Addition To Discovery Museum

BRIDGEPORT — The Discovery Museum and Planetarium has opened its newest exhibit, “Preschool Power,” hands-on exhibit designed to engage, excite and educate children up to ages 3. The exhibit features colorful, soft play structures carefully designed to teach age-appropriate motor skills such as balance and coordination, and engage the senses of sight, hearing and touch. The play structures encourage imagination, make-believe, and exploration.

While parents and children play, they naturally experience colors and shapes and observe the physics of gravity. They also practice spatial perception, noticing what is bigger, what fits where, and which shapes roll better.

“Our new exhibit gives parents of toddlers a fantastic new option for child/parent interaction and makes Museum membership even more valuable.” said Jeffrey N. Bishop, the museum’s executive director. “We are very grateful to the Norma F. Pfriem Foundation for underwriting this exciting new addition to the museum.”

Separated by a partition from the rest of the exhibits, Preschool Power provides an environment where children ages three and under, and their parents, can explore and play without intrusion from older kids. The exhibit space is enhanced with eco-friendly, child-safe rubber flooring.  Te environment is made safer by being a no-shoes zone, with cubbies and benches provided outside the exhibit.

The Discovery Museum, southern Connecticut’s preeminent non-profit educational resource for science and space education, is at 4450 Park Avenue, one mile south of Merritt Parkway Exit 47, directly across from Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course.
