NMS To Hold ‘Washington In Review’ Event

By Eliza Hallabeck

Newtown Middle School Principal Diane Sherlock said this week she hopes all parents of seventh and eighth grade students will attend an upcoming, May 17, presentation that will review the eighth grade’s recent field trip to Washington, D.C., for parents.

The “Washington In Review” presentations will run from 6:30 am until 6:30 pm. Each presentation will run about 25 minutes and will start again with new student presenters throughout the day to constantly be showing highlights and sharing perspectives on the trip for interested eighth grade parents and questioning seventh grade parents.

“We’ve invited all of our chaperones to come,” said Ms Sherlock, who said the parent chaperones will also share their memories from the trip during the presentations.

“We really want a good turnout of parents since the kids are putting in so much effort,” said Ms Sherlock.

May 17 was chosen to coincide with Newtown’s budget referendum.

The eighth grade’s trip to Washington, D.C., took place between April 27 and April 29. Ms Sherlock said most parents only learn about the trip from their own children, and the presentation will add a boarder sense of what the trip offers students for parents.

“We hope all of our seventh and eighth grade parents come,” she said.
