Programs

Crafts Around the World: Monday afternoons, July 11 through August 8, 1 to 3 pm, drop by the story hour room and make a craft to bring home. July 11, we will be making Koi fish, ages 4-9. Parents should remain with their child while they are working on their craft. No registration required.

PJ Story Time: Tuesday evenings, 6:30 pm, beginning July 19 through August 19. Family program features, stories, silly songs, and a puppet show for ages 3–7. No registration required, pajamas encouraged. The puppet show for July 19 is The Elephant’s Sneeze.

Cooking Around the World: Explore the cuisines of Syria, Vietnam, India, Peru, and Morocco on Wednesdays, at noon, beginning July 13 through August 10. On July 13, native Syrian Suad Behrend will demonstrate how to make hummus and tabbouleh. For ages 8–10. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org. A $5 material fee is due on the day of the program.

 FETCH Science with Bonnie Shugrue: July 14, 3 to 4 pm. Shoot a marble down an obstacle course in a pinball machine that you create yourself. For ages 8–10. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org. A $3 material fee is due on the day of the program.

Go For the Stars: A multimedia program about space exploration, Friday, July 15, 4 pm; learn about latest news about outer space. Meet Robo, the friendly robot. For ages 5 and up. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org.

Keith Munslow: A Wickedly Funny Guy: Tuesday, July 19, 4 pm. Award-winning performer Keith Munslow combines music, storytelling, art and improvisation. For ages 5 and up. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org.

Hooper’s Story, the Katrina Rescue Dog : Friday, July 22, 3:30 pm. Hooper Finds a Family, by Jane Paley, based on the true story of a lovable yellow lab who was rescued after Katrina. Author Jane Paley, along with Hooper, will retell how Hooper survived the hurricane and found a new life. For ages 5 and up. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org.

Young Adult

Creative Writing Summer Camp: Begins Thursday, July 7. The Creative Writing Summer Camp for young adults will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 pm for rising grades 6 & 7, and from 6 to 8 pm for rising grades 8 & 9, on the following dates (mostly Thursdays): July 7, 14, 21, 25 (Monday) & 28. Teen Summer Reading Challenge: The Teen Summer Reading Challenge for rising grades 6–12: Every time you finish a book, fill out a summary at the YA display, take it to the desk, and receive one ticket for every 50 pages. Deposit tickets in the raffle boxes. There will be two prize drawings, July 18 and August 8. All participants will be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing for a Kindle Wi-Fi, August 8.

Harry Potter Movie Marathon:

Harry Potter movies in order, leading up to the July 15 release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, at the library. Admission is free.

Pizza slices can be preordered for $1 each and served at 6:30. Place order at the 4 pm show or call ahead by 4 pm on show day. 203-426-4533.

Adult Programs

 Insuring Your Future in the Event of a Catastrophic Event: Learn how to photograph your belongings for insurance purposes. This program is brought to you by Ritz Camera and will take place in the Meeting Room on Monday, July 11, at 6 pm.

Back Up Your Valuable Data — Computer Class with Mike Ingber: Hear Mike Ingber’s professional advice on this important topic on Tuesday, July 12, at 10 am. Register at www.chboothlibrary.org or drop in. Refreshments will be served.

The Art & Craft of Fly-Fishing: Join guide and professional fly-fisherman Jim Turecek on Wednesday, July 13, at 7 pm, for a slideshow and lecture on fly-fishing. No need to register. Meets in the Meeting Room of the Library.

Edible Book Contest: Join us for the first Booth Library Edible Book Contest. Make something edible and book related and bring your creation to the library Saturday, July 16, at 10 am. You do need to register for this program. Forms are available at the first and second floor circulation desks. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.

History of Connecticut Wine: Join local Newtowner Amy Nawrocki and Eric Lehman who will be discussing their new book, A History of Connecticut Wine, on Friday, July 22, at 6:30 pm. We’ll have a wine and local cheese tasting in conjunction with the author talk. Signups are a must as space is limited. Register online at www.chboothlibrary.org or by calling 203-426-4533.

Escapes and Intrigues: Some Classic Thrillers for Summer Reading: Julie Stern, a retired teacher of English and philosophy will be back at the library this summer to lead a discussion on classic mysteries. Copies of all of the books are available at the second floor circulation desk. Tuesday, July 12, at 7:30 pm: The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad; Tuesday, July 26, at 7:30 pm: Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household, Tuesday, August 9, at 7:30 pm: Our Man in Havana by Graham Greene.

Computer Skills Help: Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:30 am to noon, the library is offering free drop-in help on the third floor computers. Learn how to create an e-mail account, save to a flash drive, basic word help, cutting and pasting, plus upload files to job hunting sites.
