Chapin Returning For Concert With Rising Stars
Grammy Award winner Tom Chapin, nationally acclaimed folk singer-songwriter, will return on Sunday, March 25, as part of a family-friendly performance at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road. The concert will begin at 3 pm.
Leading young performers throughout the county including The Fairfield County Childrenâs Choir under the leadership of Maestro Jon Noyes of Orange, jazz violinist Sam Weiser of Westport, classical guitarist Yossi Kohrman-Glaser of Newtown, and other rising stars will open for and perform with Mr Chapin. The concert is produced by The Little House that Roared, a program of Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown.
âIâm excited to come back to Newtown and perform with these wonderful young musicians,â said Mr Chapin, who performed at the high school last year to an audience of 650, and is returning this year due to popular demand.
âNow that everybody knows that last yearâs concert was a smash hit, we are anticipating selling every seat in the house well in advance of the event, so get your tickets while you can,â urges Rabbi Shaul Praver of Congregation Adath Israel. The Little House That Roared is Rabbi Praverâs brainchild. âWe started The Little House That Roared series three year ago as a showcase for highly talented young musicians,â said Rabbi Praver. âI guess we strummed the right chord because now weâre putting these kids on the same stage with Tom Chapin.â
âWe believe wholesome, intergenerational live family entertainment is a really good thing for Newtown and the county,â said Curtis Urbina of Quark Records and TLHTR committee member.
In addition to his solid guitar picking, clever song lyrics, and authoritative vocal performance, Mr Chapin is known for using his music to advance important causes. For example, Mr Chapin âtestifiedâ before the New York State Senate by singing his song, âYou Canât Spell Smart without Art.â Mr Chapin was advocating to reinstate funding for the arts in New York State.
Mr Chapinâs current CD, Give Peas a Chance, advocates for locally grown food and improved nutritional provisions in schools throughout the country.
Tickets for the March 25 concert are $12 to $20 if purchased in advance. They will be $15 to $25 at the door.
