NBLA Meeting Features Estate Planning For Pets

The Newtown Bridle Lands Association (NBLA) will hold an Open Meeting on Tuesday, September 18, at 7:30 pm at the Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

The meeting will feature a presentation by Attorney Rosanna Rogers, Estate Planning For Pets (including horses).

The presentation will explore all of the existing options that an animal owner should consider when planning for the welfare of his or her pets in the event of the owner’s incapacity or death.

The recently enacted legislation concerning pet trusts broadens the options available for pet owners by allowing animals to be beneficiaries of trusts, a right previously reserved for humans, NBLA officials note. But there are many alternatives to provide for animals depending on the species, age, and needs.

Rogers will also address related topics, such as the legal status of animals, selecting the proper caregiver, and determining the proper funding level for ensuring that a beloved pet will receive the attention and care desired.

Rogers has been a resident of Newtown for more than 10 years. She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University School of Law and has a solo law practice in Newtown. Her practice of law specializes in estate planning, including estate planning for animals, elder law, and residential real estate.

All are welcome, non-members are asked to give a $5 donation.
