Occupation: I’m in marketing, and my marketing company is Market Sage. It’s located in Newtown. I’ve also just been elected the chair for the Newtown Arts Festival 2013.

Family: I have a partner named Paul Robinson. We relocated here from Atlanta, Ga.

Pets: We lost our dog, Sophie, a Jack Russell terrier, this past summer. We’re eagerly awaiting finding a new member of our family, though no one can replace Sophie.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We bought our house in July of 2010. We came to Newtown because Paul was relocated. He works for Behringer-Ingelheim. Paul was actually here the crazy winter and I moved up here after selling our house, bringing the nice, mild Georgia winter we had last year.

What do you like to do in your free time? Life has changed for us, quite a bit, not living in downtown Atlanta! We do a lot of exploring of Connecticut and spend a good deal of time in New York City. It’s wonderful being so close to the City. I’m involved in the Arts Festival, of course. I spend a lot of time in our garden. We went from having a quarter-acre to two acres, and inherited a lot of specimen trees. Mostly, I grow flowers… well, really it’s maintenance. We hope to expand our gardens to include some of our favorites that we had down South, like the hydrangeas and hostas, if we can protect them from the deer. I’ve been involved in theater all my life. I have about 25 years of nonprofit arts experience. I do read quite a bit, too.

Do you have a favorite book? I tend to read mostly historical books and biographies. I just finished An Hour Before Daylight by Jimmy Carter. Right now, I’m reading The Dubliners, a collection of short stories by James Joyce. I found it in a box when I unpacked.

What is the best thing about Newtown? Because Newtown is so vastly different from where we were, what I’ve discovered is that Newtown really cares about its people. The gem that comes to the surface is experiencing a different way of life. Things like the content in The Bee has exposed us to that. There’s an element of Northern hospitality here.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My dad comes to mind. He is honest and fair and true to his values. Along with my mother, he raised six great children. The values he instilled in me and my siblings keep me inspired today.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I love this one by 19th Century Australian poet Adam Lindsay Gordon: “Life is mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, Kindness in another’s trouble, Courage in your own.” I first saw that on my mother’s refrigerator, 20 years ago. I saw another recently, too, that I like: “Don’t stumble over something behind you.”

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Watching The Young and The Restless. I’m sure the genre is doomed and then I don’t know what I’ll do. In 1973, we had Hurricane Agnes, and it rained for two weeks straight after school got out I was at a friend’s house every day and the mom watched it. I was hooked…
