Summer On The Sound To Benefit Life Haven Shelter

BRANFORD — Anyone interested in helping one of the region’s largest providers of temporary shelter for homeless pregnant women and women with small children should mark their calendar for Thursday, August 16. That evening, from 6 to 8, the second annual Summer on The Sound will offer an evening of cool breezes, hot barbecue, and great music at Branford’s Owenego Inn.

The event will benefit New Haven-based Life Haven. Tickets for the event, which includes a silent auction, are $25 and can be purchased by calling Life Haven at 203-776-6208.

Located on Ferry Street in the Fair Haven neighborhood of New Haven, Life Haven provides 40 beds for homeless women and children for an average stay of 60 days each. Life Haven is also the largest provider of homeless services for children in greater New Haven, and is the only licensed child care facility at a homeless shelter in the entire state.

“Unfortunately, the number of homeless children in our state continues to increase,” said Jacquelyn Pheanious, executive director of Life Haven. “At Life Haven … the children we serve are receiving excellent, consistent care while their mothers are working on solving their personal issues and learning the skills to end their homeless situation.”

Owenego Inn, at 40 Linden Avenue in Branford, offers an outdoor patio with unobstructed views of the ocean.

“The location is lovely,” commented Ms Pheanious. “We hope people with take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a summer evening overlooking the sea while supporting a very worthy cause. Last year’s event was very well attended, and we expect the same kind of crowd this year.”
