Book Party & Sale At Roxbury Library

ROXBURY — The Friends of the Roxbury Library will hold its annual book sale, rain or shine, on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19 at the Hodge Memorial Library & Museum.

The Hodge Library on Route 67 facing Roxbury’s Town Green, is also the location of a preview party, “A Tribute to Arthur Miller,” to be held on Friday, June 17, from 5:30 to 8 pm. The party will launch the three-day event. All proceeds from both events will directly benefit the library.

The theme of the preview party is a tribute to Arthur Miller, a beloved Roxbury resident and one of the most significant dramatists of the 20th Century. Mr Miller’s writing transformed American theater and exposed the plight of America’s working class with realism and probing intensity. The Friends of the Roxbury Library will be honoring his immeasurable contributions to the library world and the world at large.

Admission to the preview party is $20 per person or $35 per couple. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase antique/rare books, autographed copies including some of Mr Miller’s works, and first editions. Wine, beverages, and hors d’oeuvres will be served while Aaron Kaufman, an acoustical guitarist from Roxbury, plays music accompanied by vocalist Jenna Bollard. In addition there will be a reading of one of Arthur Miller’s works and a presentation of black and white photographs of Mr Miller taken over the years. Tickets will be available at the door.

At 8:30 am on Saturday, early birds may pay $5 to gain entrance to the book sale before the 9 am public opening, which is free of charge. The sale will continue until 4 pm. The inventory — thousands of books of all categories from mystery to biography to the hottest new fiction plus mixed media — represents entirely new donations.

On Sunday, June 19, from noon to 3 pm, selected items will be sold at half price.
