POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS â We are now taking names for the next sessions, both morning and evening. Also, if you would like to host a 5 week group in your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. FATHERâS NIGHT â Jeff Steinberg continues this popular series on Monday, November 15 from 7:30 to 9 pm. The topic is âHow to Discipline Your Child.â Please call NYS to register 270-4335 for this free program.
Community Programs
The YAB is also sponsoring a TAG SALE on November 13, in the Memorial Room of the Congregational Church House at 41-A Main Street. Anyone wishing to make donations can call NYS at 270-4335. Donations may be dropped off on Friday, Nov 12 between 2:30 and 6:30 pm or after 8 am on Saturday. (Only items ready for sale, please.) All proceeds will be used for the YAB annual scholarship fund.
After School Programs
Middle School Age Students - Cardio-cycling, power boards, music, total body strength and endurance training â all activities offered for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Girlsâ programs will meet on Monday and Wednesday; boysâ  Tuesday and Thursday. Classes begin the week of November 15 and run until December 17. Both programs run from 4 to 5 pm, twice a week at Newtown Health and Fitness. Minimum of 8 students required. Cost is $50.
Golf - Basic instruction on swing, chipping, and putting. Will also work on grip, stance, and alignment. Limit of 4. Classes meet twice a week for 5 weeks on Monday and Wednesday, November 15 to December 17 from 4 to 5 pm. Instructor is Bill Flood. Equipment is provided. Also at the Fitness Club. Fee is $150.
Homework Club â Learn study skills and have fun, too. High school tutors will work with you and help you get your work done. No fee. Limit of 10.

Super Sitter Program
Due to conflicts with Middle School early dismissals, the November Accelerated Super Sitter course will be postponed until Tuesday, December 7; Thursday, December 9; Tuesday, December 14; and Thursday, December 16. The 5-session class runs from 4 to 5:30 pm and cost is $25. Super Sitters meets at Newtown Youth Services. Participants need to register with NYS.
Youth Group Meetings
The High School Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will meet on Monday, November 8, at 6:30 pm at Youth Services. The TAG SALE will be the focus of the meeting. Anyone interested in joining, please call the office or see Erin Lewis or Jessica Tendler at NHS.
NYCAAP meets every week alternating Mondays and Tuesdays at 5:30 pm. The next meeting is Monday, November 8 at NYS. Call the office or see Jessica Clark or Katie Hayes for details.
The Middle School Youth Advisory Board will meet on various dates in November (the group will be working on a special holiday project). Please check this column or the YAB bulletin boards in the MS café or St Rose for further dates. New members are always welcome.
Attention Teens
The Newtown Youth Servicesâ Job Bank matches Newtown residents with teens who are in search of part-time employment such as babysitting, yard work, or various odd jobs. Some positions are part-time, and others are on-going.
If you are between 13 and 18 and are interested in joining the Job Bank, please call the Job Bank Coordinator, Jessica Clark, at 270-4335. Applications may be picked up at the office between 8:30 and 4:30, or call the office and weâll mail you one.
Entertainment Books
Once again, NYS makes these handy books available at $30 each. They make great gifts and include discounts for area restaurants, videos, movie tickets, dry cleaning, etc. Itâs a great way to support Newtown Youth Services. Please call 270-4335 to reserve your copy.
