‘Cabaret’ At TheatreWorks

NEW MILFORD — TheatreWorks will present the Tony Award-winning musical Cabaret beginning July 21.

Set in a sleazy Berlin nightclub just before Hitler’s rise to power, the breathtaking revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s musical reveals the decadent complacency of Nazi-infested Berlin. From the candlelit stage, the Master of Ceremonies (played by Jockob Hofmann) will lure audiences into the sick pleasures of the Kit Kat Klub, then plunge into the story of writer Cliff Bradshaw’s (Kevin Cooper) gradual self-discovery and his brief affair with cabaret performer Sally Bowles (Jude Callirgos). Under the direction of Bradford Blake, Cabaret promises to be a gritty and insidiously decadent production of a Broadway classic.

Cabaret opens Friday, July 21, and will run weekends through August 19. Curtain is at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. Tickets for all shows are $25 for premium table seating and $17.50 for general admission.

On Thursday, July 20, senior citizens are invited to view a free preview presentation at 8 pm; Thursday, July 27, is Pay-What-You-Can night. At this performance audience members name the price for their ticket.

Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 860/350-6863. Reservations are not accepted for any of the special Thursday night performances. TheatreWorks is at 5 Brookside Avenue, immediately off Route 202.
