Beginning with the Super Scout 5K on Saturday, April 28, followed by two races on Saturday May 5, and continuing with events in June and July, there are several Newtown races around the corner and just a short distance down the road. Troop 70's annual Super Scout 5K race will take place at Fairfield Hills on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 10 am. At 10:30, the walkers will line up for their 1.5-mile event. At the end of the run and walk, there will be a free concert and food vendors for everyone: runners, walkers, and spectators alike. With each step and with each sandwich purchased, participants will be helping the scouts of Troop 70.

The Run4Hunger 5K, hosted by Knights of Columbus, St Virgilius Council 185, will take place at Fairfield Hills on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 8:30 am. The race benefits FAITH Food Pantry.

NFA is the oldest private land trust organization in Connecticut, and is dedicated to preserving forests, agricultural lands, nature preserves, watersheds, and other open space lands in Newtown, for the ongoing benefit of the plants, animals, and citizens of the town.
REACH Newtown is a locally based nonprofit organization with a mission to connect kids and build relationships that change lives. REACH serves more than 200 children in Fairfield County, through a one-to-one mentorship program two days per week, a tutoring academy that serves academically at-risk children four days per week, a weekend outdoor expedition program, and a summer camp throughout the months of July and August all offered at no cost.

The Newtown Rooster Run to benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association will take place at the Municipal Center at Fairfield Hills on Saturday, June 23 at 8 am.
The 44th Annual Rooster Run has the traditional 5K course, but runners have the option for the 10K course. Cheer on your friends and family as they raise money for a great cause. This race/walk is for the elite to the novice.
Cost is $25 for runners 18 and older, $15 for runners 5-17, and $10 for Little Chicks Dash participants (ages 3-8).
Online or walk-in registrations will close at noon on Friday, June 22. Registration will end at 7:45 am on the day of the race; fee on race day is $30.

The seventh annual Mad Dash Adventure Race will take place at Fairfield Hills on Saturday, June 30.
There is an elite course which is three laps and covers 4.3 miles, an open course (one lap and 1.7 miles) both for ages 8 and up, and a Mini Dash Adventure for ages 5-8.
Start times are as follows: 8:30 am for elite and superhero participants, 9:45 for Mini Dash runners, and 10 am for open participants.
Early bird cost for the elite and open races is $25 through May 24. Cost is $35 after May 25 through race day. Cost for superheroes and teams of six the cost is $120. Teams must register in advance.

The Sandy Hook 5K accommodates up to 2,000 runners, with registration on a first-come, first-served basis. The run for children ages 2-6 is a quarter mile; and for children ages 7 and up is a half mile. Total spots available for both kids' runs is 200, also on a first-come, first-served basis. A Virtual 5K is also available for those wishing to participate in other communities as a virtual participant.
Registration costs are $30 for the 5K, $10 for the kids' runs, and $26 for the virtual runners. Additional fees may apply. All on-site participants will receive an official race shirt, goodie bag, and a Ben's Bells Kindness Coin race medal.
Once again, there will be a youth t-shirt logo design contest. Children 2 to 10 years of age are encouraged to draw a logo inspired by the race or by what Newtown means to them. The top five logos will receive a $15 gift certificate to the Toy Tree in Newtown. The winning design will be featured on the race shirt given to all kids' fun runs participants.
