Good news for those of you who missed the demonstration of Painting on Silk back in January. Paula Moliver has agreed to return to the library on Monday, February 28th at 10 am for an encore performance. Come try your hand at this new and exciting medium. Please sign up at the registration desk so that we can reschedule should we have another snowy day.
 The Zang Collection of art, photography, and gardening books continues to grow. Please come and check out these beautiful books which were given in appreciation of Joanne Zang by the Friends of the Library.
Donations are currently being accepted for the Labor Day Book Sale. Please leave your books on the cart near the Childrenâs Department. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Come in from the cold and enjoy some movies worth a second viewing. Booth Library Celebrates Great Movies That Were Great Books First! On February 11, the movie will be Breakfast at Tiffanyâs, a charming retelling of Truman Capoteâs novel, and on February 25, A River Runs Through It will be the feature. Movies begin at 12:30 pm in the new meeting room and are always free.
Donât miss the Newtown Historical Societyâs presentation of Abraham Lincoln, A Family Play on Sunday, February 13 at 3 pm in the meeting room of the library.
Come learn about butterfly gardens on Tuesday, February 15 at 11 am. Carol Lemmon from the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station will give a slide presentation and talk on how to attract these soaring insects to your yard and garden. All are welcome to attend this free lecture. Refreshments will be served.
The Booth Book Discussion Group will be discussing Barbara Kingsolverâs Poisonwood Bible on Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 pm in Quiet Study. You need not read the entire book to attend and new members are always welcome.
Bob Brand will be holding an Intermediate Internet class on Saturday, February 19, from 10 - noon. There is a $10 fee for this class. Please register at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533.
At the end of the month Fred Comstock will be returning to the library to talk about bluebirds. Fred, an author and naturalist has banded over 6,000 bluebirds and will speak on what we can do to help improve their survival rate. Come learn how to attract them to your yard, and how to keep them coming back to your yard year after year. After the program Mr Comstock will be signing his book, Bluebirds: The How to Book. He will also have bluebird house kits available for sale. This is a fun and easy family project, especially if youâve begun looking ahead to the balmier days of spring. This program is free and refreshments will be served.
McLaughlin Vineyards will be presenting an exciting new program beginning on Tuesday, February 29 called Food and Wine, Cooking and Pairing to be held in the meeting room of the library. The class will be set up like a dinner with attendees sampling four courses and the wines with which they have been paired. Brenda Hrotesk, chef of Vineyard Food Co. and Morgen McLaughlin of McLaughlin Vineyards will demonstrate the preparation of the featured course as well as speak on the food, wine, entertaining and other related topics. This is a four part series to be held on consecutive Tuesdays (February 29, March 7, March 14, and March 21) from 6 to 8 pm. Come to one or come to all four. Please register by calling the library at 426-4533 or McLaughlin Vineyards at 426-1533. The supply fee is $8 per class or $32 for the series.
