Charter Wins A Beacon Award For Lyme Program

Charter Communications’ CommuniTyVision 21 of Newtown has won a Beacon Award. The Cable Television Public Affairs Association (CTPAA) created The Beacon Awards as an opportunity to honor excellence in public affairs throughout the cable industry.  Winners were named during the Beacon Awards gala, Tuesday, March 23, at The Fairmont Hotel, Washington, D.C., in conjunction with CTPAA’s FORUM 2004 conference, “Communicating Cable’s Value.”

In 2003 Mark Ingram, one of the Access Coordinators at CommuniTyVision 21, produced and directed a presentation by the Newtown Lyme Disease Task Force on the topic of Lyme disease.  Using the department’s mobile production truck and a crew of intern volunteers, he provided an important connection to be established between the community and a serious health concern. This production — its planning, taping, editing, and airing — were compiled into an entry for the competition

The award is on display at the CommuniTyVision 21 production facility. The public is invited to see the award and explore the opportunity of community television. Internships, mobile truck productions, custom training, and tours are available free to franchise residents. Weekly office hours are: 10 am to 10 pm Monday through Thursday, and 10 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday.

CommuniTyVision 21 is Charter Communications’ multiaward winning community access department in the 14-town western Connecticut franchise area. For more information visit www.communityvision21.com.
