Arrest Follows High-Speed Chase
Police said they became involved in a high-speed chase late on the night of September 28 in pursuit of a fleeing motorist, whose speed exceeded 90 miles per hour.
Police said they observed motorist Dustin M. Shaw, 18, of 80 Eden Hill Road, who was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road in a 1995 Volkswagen Passat sedan, turn right and go northbound on The Boulevard about 11:35pm.
As Shaw made the maneuver, the tires on the Volkswagen spun and he almost lost control of the vehicle, police said. Shaw then sped up the Boulevard and the police followed in order to âclockâ his speed.
For two miles, police said, Shaw drove at speeds of more than 90 miles per hour, traveling northbound on The Boulevard, to Hanover Road, and then to Old Farm Hill Road. Shaw continued to drive at high speeds, even after police turned on their emergency signaling equipment in an attempt to stop him, eventually stopping on Old Farm Hill Road. Police said they investigated and noticed the odor of alcohol on Shawâs breath. There were no passengers in the auto, police said.
Police charged Shaw with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and engaging police in pursuit. The charge of reckless driving includes violations such as speeding.
After processing, police released Shaw on a $50 bond. Shaw is scheduled to appear before a judge in Danbury Superior Court on October 11 to answer the charges. Â
