Margaret Grimes To Lecture For WAA

WASHINGTON DEPOT — Washington Art Association will host a lecture in its gallery on Friday, May 13.

Margaret Grimes will present “A Personal Journey Through Landscape and Nature.” Her lecture will run from 7:30 to 9 pm. Cost is $5 per person.

Writing in Art in America (May 2004), Paul Smith describes Margaret Grimes’s paintings: “Though solidly representational, they are also, in a sense, action paintings — painterly resolutions of the chaos of dense thickets of branches, foliage and vines undergoing the transformations of a fast moving late afternoon or early morning sun.”

In her slide lecture, Ms Grimes will describe the evolution of her work over a 25-year period and discuss her observations on the relationship between landscape painting and environmentalism.

Margaret Grimes has an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied with Neil Welliver and Rudy Burckhardt.

For the past 25 years she has exhibited her work in New York at Blue Mountain Gallery, Fischbach and Katherina Ric Perlow Galleries, and regionally at the WAA, Gunn Museum, The Silo, Weir Farm Trust and Bachelier-Cardonsky Gallery. Her work has also been exhibited in a number of national museum shows and is included in several books on landscape painting.

She teaches painting at Western Connecticut State University, where she is coordinator of the MFA program.

For reservations or additional information call 860-868-2878. The WAA gallery is in Bryan Memorial Plaza, on Route 47.
