Town Hall Seats Are Sold, But Lions Are Still
A Little Short Of Goal
The news is very good.
The main level of auditorium seats at Edmond Town Hall â 411 of them â have all been sold. Priced at $300, there was a rush at the end of the year to purchase seats through a replacement sponsored by Newtown Lions Club. All of the seats on the main level of the theater will be replaced as part of this project. Some will be paid for through many small donations to the fund, but most were purchased by individuals, families, organizations, and businesses. The new seats will bear plaques honoring the donors, or someone or something of their choice.
After the end-of-the-year rush to purchase seats, there is now a waiting list in the event some of the groups or businesses who have purchased multiple seats wish to release them.
A sign in front of Edmond Town Hall indicates that $145,000 for this project has been raised. Since an estimated $150,000 is necessary to purchase the new seats, install them, repair the floor and cart the old seats away, the Lions Club is still about $5,000 short of its goal.
âSince I know that many people point with pride to Edmond Town Hall and enjoy movies and other activities held there, it is hoped that a number of these people will now step forward and contribute,â said Gordon Williams, chairman of the Lions Clubâs ETH Seats Program. âContributions large and small are all welcome.â
The Lions Club invites donations of all sizes to the theater seat renovation project. Anyone interested in contributing should make a check out to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers and send it to Newtown Lions Club, Attention Gordon Williams, PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470.
All donations are tax-deductible.
Anyone who has questions should call Mr Williams at 426-6443.
