Volunteer Monitors Sought For

Project FeederWatch

DERBY — Anyone who enjoys watching birds or who would like to learn more about identifying them is invited to become a volunteer for Cornell University’s Project FeederWatch, nationwide volunteer research effort to identify and count the winter species of birds that use feeding stations between November and April.

Volunteers are needed for this year’s bird counts for the project at Connecticut of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Avenue. Counts will be taken every other Friday and Saturday, from mid-November through the end of March.

A training workshop and sign-ups for count days will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 2 to 3 pm at the center. The workshop is free and open to the public, but preregistration is required. To register or for more information, call Kellogg Environmental Center at 734-2513 between 9 am and 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
