Goodspeed Musicals Announces 2007 Season

EAST HADDAM — Goodspeed Musicals, under the leadership of Executive Director Michael P. Price, has announced its performances for 2007 at Goodspeed Opera House. The 44th season will include three classic musicals: Singin’ In The Rain which was recently named “Greatest Movie Musical” of all time by American Film Institute, will run from April 20 through July 1; the hilarious High Button Shoes will run from July 13 through September 22; and a true American musical, 1776, will run from September 28 through December 2.

Based on the classic MGM film, Singin’ In The Rain is a romantic fable that thrusts the spotlight on Hollywood in its heyday — dashing leading men, glamorous starlets, and plenty of romance on and off the screen. It features such unforgettable songs as “Good Morning,” “Make ‘Em Laugh,” and “Singin’ In The Rain.” And yes, there will be rain.

High Button Shoes is a peek back at the Model T era as the stage bursts with bathing beauties and fraternity brothers, Keystone Kops chasing madcap robbers, and even a dancing gorilla. The lively and lovable musical will leave the audience laughting as a fast-talking conman returns to his old hometown in hopes os striking it rich.

Toe-tapping songs include “Papa Won’t You Dance With Me,” “I Still Get Jealous” and “You’re My Girl.

Goodspeed’s 2007 season finale will be ‘America’s musical,” 1776, where the nationl’s founding fathers fight for Americ’a freedom and draft the Declaration of Independence. Sparks fly as John Adams plots, delegates vote, Thomas Jefferson writes, and George Washington waits – but it takes wily and wise Ben Franklin to save the day. 1776 is a riveting musical filled with history, humor, and, of course, romance.

Advance season subscriptions are on sale through the box office, 860-873-8668, or online at Goodspeed.org. Subscription prices range from $78 to $198 for one person, all three shows.
