Rep Hovey Elected To Leadership Role With National Organization

The national Women In Government organization has elected State Representatives DebraLee Hovey (R-Monroe, Newtown) as its treasurer. She was elected at the organization’s Annual State Directors Conference held in Marco Island, Fla., January 4–6.

Women In Government is a national nonprofit, bipartisan organization of women state legislators providing leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues. It was founded in 1988 as a bipartisan, nonprofit educational association for elected women in state government and provides a neutral platform for bringing women policymakers together to share information and seek solutions to timely issues before federal, state, and local governments.

“I am honored to be elected to a leadership role in this organization,” said Rep Hovey. “It will provide me additional opportunities to network with legislators from throughout our nation and bring back initiatives that have worked well in other states to benefit people in Connecticut.”

Among Women In Government’s programs are its Legislative Business Roundtable, which unites women state policymakers with leaders in the business community to address issues of mutual concern and promote collective problem solving through public/private partnership.

The organization’s Leadership Exchange unites women state legislators and business leaders with international government officials, women business leaders, and women in various levels of government. The goal of this program is to promote better understanding and create ongoing dialogue, highlighting areas of mutual concern while recognizing and respecting the fundamental differences between legislators in different countries.
