Seniors Need Their Own Building

To the Editor:

Yes, I do believe we seniors need more space for our Senior Center. As of now, we share the Community Center with many other organizations. The Parks and Recreation, special meetings, etc. The seniors, as well as the Parks and Recreation, have to schedule their times for using this small space. The senior population is growing because of the baby boomers — and we older ones are living longer (it’s the vitamins).

We need a building just for us. With enough room to accommodate our daily activities. With approximately 2,200 to 4,800 seniors, we need entertainment/activity rooms to be able to hold 150 to 200 people at a time (not under 70). It would be nice to be able to sew or paint and not have to put it away for exercise class or line dancing.

Come on Newtown! If Oxford and Monroe created more space, and Brookfield is in the process of doing so — why can’t we?

Sincerely,

Beatrice Piskura
