‘HOT & BOTHERED’ TACKLES GLOBAL ISSUES  AT NYC’S PACE/MACGILL GALLERY JULY 11, NO PIC

/GS SET 6-25 #704528

NEW YORK CITY — Pace/ MacGill Gallery will present a group exhibition, “Hot & Bothered: Looking at the Landscape/Thinking about the World,” on view July 11–August 24.

At a time when topics such as global warming and overpopulation are prevalent in the media, “Hot & Bothered” will contribute to the public conversation about these issues and environmental concerns. The selected photographs reveal the vast scope of the evolving landscape, enable reflection upon humanity’s responsibility for these changes and, ideally, inspire acts of preservation.

Photographs from Harry Callahan’s “Water’s Edge” series transport the viewer to idyllic beaches and remind one of their fragility. John Szarkowski and JoAnn Verburg’s views of redwoods and olive groves celebrate the monumentality, magic and majesty of trees while Emmet Gowin’s aerial landscapes and Boris Mikhailov’s portraits of bathers in an industrial Ukrainian town starkly document the human footprint on the world.

The exhibition will also feature both modern and vintage prints by Dieter Appelt, David Byrne, William Christenberry, Chuck Close, Mark Klett, Richard Misrach and Frederick Sommer. Each of the artists included addresses the urgency of protecting a vulnerable Earth.

The gallery is at 32 East 57th Street. For information, 212-759-7999.
