‘Memory Of Water’ Opens This Weekend At Theater Barn

RIDGEFIELD — The Memory of Water, a comedy by Shelagh Stephenson, produced and directed by Sherry Asch, will open at Ridgefield Theater Barn on Friday, June 4, at 8 pm. Winner of Britain’s 2000 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, the cast includes Sherry Cox, Brian DeToma, Dana Laite, Paulette Layton, Laurel Lettieri and Valerie Rich.

Performances will continue Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm through June 26, with Sunday matinees at 5 pm on June 13 and 20.

In this funny and poignant play, three sisters return home to Yorkshire, England, after the death of their mother. They struggle with who remembers which events, only to find that individual memories of their experiences have become fuzzy, and family stories, many times re-told, become fair game for an alternate reality that transcends the memory. Yet the age-old tradition of recollecting these stories — bound by love, laughter, anger and tears — is the centerpiece of this bittersweet, life-affirming comedy.

Tickets are $24, $20 seniors and students, and are available online at RidgefieldTheaterBarn.org. Seating is cabaret style and the audience is invited to bring food and beverage to enjoy before the performance and during intermission. Doors open one hour prior to curtain.

The theater barn is at 37 Halpin Lane.
