Newtown Village School

Becoming A Reality

To the Editor:

Due to an incredible effort made by some very dedicated students from Newtown High School, the “Newtown Village School” is scheduled to be completed in April of this year in the province of Kampong Thom in Cambodia. The students raised the money last year through several successful fundraisers. Because of their efforts, over 100 children will now have the opportunity to attend school.

They are hosting another fundraiser on Friday, February 25, at the Fox Hill Inn in Brookfield. The money raised at this event will provide an English teacher, computers, garden, and drinking wells. This will revolutionize an entire village. The English teacher is necessary to protect the children from human trafficking. (Knowing at least five basic sentences in English has a track record of greatly protecting them from being taken).

This event should be a wonderful one. Music is provided by the Sean Fleming Band (literally an 18-month wait to book them!) There will be dancing, silent auction, casino tables and no live auction. (This will not feel like a fundraiser). Hearty hors d’oeuvres (including pasta and carving stations) are included in the price of the ticket, as well as nonalcoholic beverages. Cash bar. Donation is $75 per person. Checks should be made payable to “Two Schools – One Song.” If anyone is interested in purchasing tickets for this incredibly fun evening (or if you would just like to make a donation) please contact Kate Sclafani at 203-426-9729 or Maggie Conway at 203-426-4774. Tickets need to be purchased by February 18 to give The Fox Hill Inn a final count.

Thank you to all for supporting this great cause while having a great time as well!

Sincerely,

Kate Sclafani
