Auditions Announced For

An American

Rock Musical

The CT Performing Arts Collaborative is holding auditions for Hair (book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado; music by Galt MacDermot) through February 18 at the STM Golden Center, 268 Park Street in New Haven, and also at Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway in Waterbury.

Auditions are by appointment only. Actors should send e-mail to Hair@Rock.com to arrange an audition date and time.

The directors are casting all roles, looking for all ethnicities, ages 18-35 to play late teens to early 20s. The show is set in the late Sixties, contains adult language, and multiple mature themes.

Those auditioning should prepare a minimum of 16 bars of a rock song or song from a rock musical. Rock songs from the late 60s are particularly good choices but not required. Bring sheet music (in the correct key) with you. An accompanist will be provided. Desired qualities for those auditioning include a strong singing voice, the ability to move well on stage (Hair is not a “dance” show, but it is very physical and requires a lot of movement, an open minded approach to performance, and a collaborative performance ethic.

Rehearsals will be held at Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center, and will be Thursdays from 7 to 10 pm through February. There will be some weekend rehearsals in March, April and May; a full rehearsal schedule is available at RichardGard.com.

Two performances are planned. The first will be Friday, May 9, at The Palace Theater in Waterbury and the second will be the following Friday, May 16, at NVCC’s Fine Arts Center.
