Hawley Dessert Night Included Goodies And Games

By Eliza Hallabeck

Multiple tables were set up by 6:30 pm on Thursday, February 2, to welcome students and family members from the Hawley School community to the school’s International Dessert Night.

“Everything was really nice,” said Brandy Jacobs, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) co-chair for the event following the International Dessert Night. “It was really nice for the families. It was really good.”

Ms Jacobs co-chaired the event with Jo Ankers.

A fee of $5 was charged to help cover the costs for the event.

“It was a night to provide a sense of community and fun for our Hawley families,” said Ms Jacobs.

All the desserts were from Big Y of Newtown, which Ms Jacobs said was supportive of the event.

Each dessert featured at the International Dessert Night highlighted a different country — éclairs for France, mini cannolis for Italy, mini cheesecakes for Greece, black forest brownies for Germany, and chocolate chip cookies for the United States.

Different activities were also provided. Eventgoers had the option of creating a Chinese dragon in honor of the Year of the Dragon for the Chinese New Year, making an Irish leprechaun refrigerator magnet, folding Japanese origami under the guidance of a Hawley staff member, coloring boomerangs for Australia, and more.

“Everyone had a very good time,” said Ms Jacobs.

About 260 people attended International Dessert Night, according to Ms Jacobs.

Following the event, Ms Jacobs thanked Big Y for its support, and the parent and teacher volunteers “that helped make it a great night.”
