HARTFORD — Governor Dannel P. Malloy is directing State of Connecticut flags to half-staff in honor of the Hartford firefighter who died Tuesday night while fighting a house fire in the city.

“Last night’s tragic events are another reminder of the incredible sacrifice that our state’s first responders make on a daily basis,” Gov Malloy and Lt Governor Nancy Wyman said in a joint statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the hero we lost and those who were injured in the line of duty in our capital city.”

Flags will remain at half-staff until services are held, the date of which has not been determined.

According to the Associated Press, the firefighter — whose name has not yet been publicly released — died and three others were injured in a house fire.

Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra said during a news conference that the firefighter was 48 years old, had been born and raised in Hartford, and had been a firefighter for over six years.

One of the injured firefighters who was burned was hospitalized, the mayor said. All three of the injured were expected to recover.

News reports said the fire broke out at a two-story, wooden home on Blue Hills Avenue, in northwest Hartford. Residents made it out of the house safely, and fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.

Gov Malloy, Lt Gov Wyman and the mayor sent their condolences to the firefighter’s families, calling the firefighter who died a hero.
