From the many summer vacation pictures “reflecting the memorable experiences” local families shared with guests from New York City this year, a photo from the Good family of Sandy Hook was a winner.

According to a release from The Fresh Air Fund, of the many pictures snapped this season as inner-city children visited with families hosting them through the program, the Good’s photo “was determined the winner in the Laketime Fun category.”

Fresh Air visitor Tyler Hurt-Bey, 13, went tubing on Candlewood Lake as part of his visit this year. The winning photo shows the young man in a safety vest and goggles, holding tightly to the tube. Beside him is Good family friend Cam Ward.

“This was Tyler's third year back with us,” said Jennifer Good. “He really does feel like an extended part of our family.  It is fun watching him grow up and getting to be part of his journey.  The week he visits feels like vacation for us because we have so much fun,”

The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. For more information on hosting a Fresh Air child next summer, contact Marie Athans at 203-470-5694 or maggee62@charter.net, or visit The Fresh Air Fund online at FreshAir.org.

Interviews with prospective families will begin in February 2015.
