WWII And Korean Conflict Navy Veteran
Francis Pasquale Pitrone, 85, of Newtown, died at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on February 22, 1924, son of Peter and Jean Pitrone.
Mr Pitrone was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During World War II he survived the sinking of the USS Ommaney Bay aircraft carrier in the South Pacific off the coast of the Philippines.
He moved to Newtown in 1959 from Staten Island and was a resident of Newtown for 50 years. In 1962 he founded Apex Glass and Aluminum Products. He retired in 1992 and left the business to his son.
 He is survived by his son, Francis Peter Pitrone and his wife, Linda, of Sandy Hook; and two daughters, Margret Oliger and her husband, Gregory, of Newtown and Barbi Yorzinski and her husband, Robert, of Columbia, Md. Six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; and a brother also survive Mr Pitrone.
Mr Pitrone was formerly a member of the Knights of Columbus and The International Order of the Alhambra. In his retirement he kept busy with part-time endeavors such as Securitas at Ethan Allen in Danbury. He was a fan of UConn menâs and womenâs basketball and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He enjoyed many Friday nights at the stadium.
A funeral Mass was held April 8. Burial was in Newtown Village Cemetery. Arrangements were by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
