With Rachel Maley, Jen Greenwood, Natalie Villa and Katie Schmidt lead the way, the Maroon Mongeese opened the 2007 Newtown Senior Girls Basketball League with a pair of wins over the Fiyatrucks and Ballin’ Babes.

The Huskies and Ballers also joined the fray with wins to open the season.

Here are the results –

Maroon Mongeese 38, Fiyatrucks 16 – Rachel Maley scored 13 points and Jen Greenwood added 10 more to lead the Mongeese to the win. Gabby Nastri made four steals and Natalie Villa pulled down five rebounds. For the ‘Trucks, Kaley Krueger scored six points as Kathleen Foy, Adelle Ceretta and Keegan Frobey played well.

Huskies 36, Ballin’ Babes 33 – Amy Kelley poured in 20 points as the Huskies clipped the Babes. Lauren Picerno, Olga Virgalla and Kristene Salbu had strong floor games as the Huskies rallied in the fourth quarter. For the Babes, Liz LaPerch scored 12 points while Jen Brill and Bethany Morin played well.

Ballers 27, Fiyatrucks 25 – Kristene Salbu canned 10 points and Rachel Marlin dished off six assists. Beenish Ansari and Katie Kirrane had strong performances. For the ‘Trucks, Adelle Ceretta scored 10 points while Keegan Frobey, Cara Colacurcio and Erin Nemeth had solid games.

Maroon Mongeese 32, Ballin’ Babes 11 – Natalie Villa and Katie Schmidt scored eight points apiece to lead the Mongeese to the win. Nicole Escoda made four steals. For the Babes, Kala Buckley scored four points while Katie McNulty and Liz LaPerch played well.
