Saint Patrick’s Day To Be Celebrated

HARTFORD — The Hartford Symphony Pops! and guest conductor Gerald Steichen will present a “St Patrick’s Celtic Celebration” on Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18, at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. Performances both nights will begin at 8 pm.

The extraordinary program features traditional and modern favorites from the Emerald Isle with appearances by the Irish fiddler P.V. O’Donnell, tenor Michael Brian Dunn and step dancers from the John O’Keefe School of Dance in Hamden.

The first half of the program will include traditional arrangements of “Irish Suite,” “The Girl I Left Behind,” “The Minstrel Boy,” “The Wearing of the Green,” “Colleen Ogh Asthoirin Mein,” “Miss McCloud’s Reel” and “Molly on the Shore,” among other works. There will also be works of Giefer and Crouch, and a Victor Herbert Irish Rhapsody.

Following an intermission the program will continue with traditional arrangements of “Mist Covered Mountains,” “Lament for Martin Byrnes,” “Wheels of the World” and “The Last Rose of Summer.” There will also be works of Olcott, Nugent, and selections from Lord of The Dance.
