A Century Of Music At WestConn

DANBURY — Western Connecticut State University’s music department will present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana on Monday, November 22, in Ives Concert Hall, as the centerpiece of its “Gala Century Concert.” The concert will begin at 8 pm. Ives Hall is at 181 White Street.

The concert will feature selections from Orff’s masterpiece, to be performed by the department’s chamber singers, wind ensemble, concert choir and jazz orchestra under the leadership of Western music professors Kevin Isaacs, Fernando Jimenez and Dan Gobel.

The chamber singers will offer music by Williametta Spencer, Roger T. Petrich and Healey William.

Other selections to be performed will be music from the libraries of Count Basie, Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich orchestras and an assortment of selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. At the conclusion of the program, the jazz orchestra will perform a salute to the music of Duke Ellington in honor of his 100th birthday.

Admission to the program is free, but attendees are asked to make a donation in the amount of their choice for the benefit of WestConn’s music students. For more information, call the music department at 837-8350.
