Ernest H. Bevans, Longtime Bee Office Manager, Dies
Ernest H. Bevans, 83, a lifelong resident of Monroe and the brother of Mabel
Blankenship of Newtown, died August 28 in his home.
Mr Bevans was a longtime office manager and bookkeeper at The Newtown Bee in
the 1970s and 80s, past manager of Coger Lumber and C.L. Adams Lumber of
Southbury, and former employee at Bullards Machines.
He was a past second and third selectman in Monroe, a member of the Stepney
Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the Danbury Bowler's Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ada Johnson Bevans of Monroe;
his daughter, Ruth May Bevans Hoff of Arizona; three sons, Robert E. Bevans of
Roxbury, Russell E. Bevans of Oxford and William R. Bevans of Boscawen, N.H.;
13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 1, at Redgate, Wilmot, West and
Goulding Funeral Home, 406 Main Street, Monroe, with the Rev Karen Berger,
pastor of the United Methodist Church of Monroe, officiating.
Interment was in Stepney Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions
can be made to the United Methodist Church of Monroe, 515 Cutlers Farm Road,
Monroe, Conn. 06468.
