2014 Election Profiles Include Senate, Assembly, Probate Contenders

The Newtown Bee who will appear on local ballots on Election Day, November 4. The 106th Assembly District is completely located within Newtown. Its current first-term Republican incumbent is Mitch Bolinsky. His challenger is Democrat Matt Cole.

The 112th Assembly District encompasses Monroe and several abutting neighborhoods in southern Newtown’s 3-2 voting district. Its incumbent, Representative DebraLee Hovey, is not seeking reelection. Republican J.P. Sredzinski and Democrat Jen Aguilar are vying for that statehouse seat.

The Second Assembly District, which encompasses several neighborhoods in the Dodgingtown area of Western Newtown — Newtown’s 3-1 Voting District — also overlays parts of Danbury, Redding, and Bethel. Its current incumbent Republican Representative is Dan Carter, who took office in 2010. He is challenged by Danbury Democrat Candace Fay.

Newtown is part of Connecticut’s 28th Senate District, which has been represented by Senator John McKinney who was unsuccessful in his primary bid to run for governor, and who is leaving public office. Republican State Representative Tony Hwang and Democratic State Representative Kim Fawcett are vying for that senate seat.
