DUI Charge
DUI Charge
Police report that they received a complaint concerning an erratically driven vehicle after 3 pm on December 23, after which they found that vehicle and stopped it as it was pulling into a driveway on Plumtrees Road.
Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist William Woodworth, 53, of 19 Plumtrees Road with driving under the influence and with driving while under suspension.
After processing, police released Woodworth on $500 bail for a January 6 court appearance.
Sexual Assault
On the afternoon of December 22, police arrested a male Newtown High School student who is under age 18, charging him with fourth-degree sexual assault for allegedly inappropriately touching another student who is under age 18.
After processing, police released the arrested student on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on January 10.
State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
Currituck Road
Police report that while on patrol about 10:36 pm on December 20, they saw motorist Michelle Nardini, 38, of 17 Papoose Hill Road traveling southward near 103 Currituck Road faster than the posted speed limit, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police said they charged Nardini with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on January 4.
Queen Street
Police said they saw motorist James Terhaar, 24, of Danbury, who was driving southward on Queen Street about 11:16 pm December 23, violate a stop sign at Queen Streetâs intersection with Mile Hill Road.
Police said they stopped Terhaar on South Main Street to investigate, after which they charged him with violating a stop sign and with driving with a suspended license.
Terhaar was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 5.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Pamela Dickinson, 31, of Southbury went to the police station about 5:30 pm December 27, police said.
Police said they charged Dickinson with sixth-degree larceny. That arrest stems from an investigation that police made into a complaint that they received on December 2 from a caller at 6 Queen Street, which is the address of Newtown Shopping Village.
After processing, police released Dickinson on a written promise to appear on January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.
Truck Vs Truck
At about 8:49 am on December 23, driver William Brunetti, 57, of 77 Butterfield Road, who was driving a 2007 Hino commercial truck, was making a left turn from a driveway at 151 South Main Street onto southbound South Main Street, as driver James Belden, 40, of 3 Oak Ridge Drive was driving a 2008 Toyota pickup truck northward on South Main Street, police said.
The two trucks collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Brunetti a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Vandalism
During the early morning hours of Friday, December 24, someone intentionally damaged several mailboxes in the neighborhood of Gopher Road-Shadow Ridge Circle, police report. The streets are located off of Currituck Road.
Also, various objects that had been located on properties in that area were placed on roadways, police added.
Police Officer Scott Smith is investigating the incident and asks anyone with knowledge of who caused the problems to contact him at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Commercial Van
Henry Kostka, 63, of 20 Beechwood Drive, who was driving a commercial 2010 Chevrolet van eastward on Washington Avenue, near Pearl Street, encountered a deer that had entered the road at about 5:17 pm December 22, police report. The van and the deer collided. Kostka was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Three Vehicles
A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred about 3:51 pm December 21 on northbound South Main Street, near South Main Streetâs northern intersection with Elm Drive.
Motorist Christine Lamas, 29, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan, slowed for traffic conditions, as did motorist Ruby Beer, 70, of 30 Maltbie Road, who was driving a 2004 Lexus SUV behind the Toyota, police said.
Motorist Stacy Callaway, 34, of Bethlehem, who was driving a 2009 Toyota station wagon, then struck the rear end of the Lexus, pushing the Lexus into the rear end of Toyota sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Callaway received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Snowplow Truck
About 1:28 pm on December 26, Anthony Capozziello, 34, of 12 Sunnyview Terrace, who was driving a town-owned 2005 Ford pickup truck with a snowplow attached to it, was exiting a parking area near Newtown Municipal Center at Fairfield Hills, as motorist Callie Koch, 20, of 34 Pearl street was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz sedan northward on DG Beers Boulevard, police said.
The Ford entered DG Beers Boulevard and its snowplow blade struck the Mercedes, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Capozziello a written warning for failure to grant the right of way and for failure to display headlamps on a snow removal vehicle.

Rear-Ender
Motorist Amy Primini, 39, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2005 Honda SUV, was waiting for traffic on westbound Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road about 2:31 pm December 23, when the Honda was struck from behind by motorist Catherine Hair, 54, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Chrysler sedan, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hair an infraction for following too closely and also verbally warned Hair for distracted driving.
Dual Impacts
About 4:10 pm on December 22, motorist William Leary, 57, of Naugatuck was driving a 2002 Buick sedan northward near 10 Hawleyville Road, as motorist Nina Phalen, 55, of Torrington was driving a 2005 Hyundai sedan southward there, police report.
A deer entered the northbound travel lane and was hit by the Buick, after which the deer was struck by the Hyundai, according to police. Neither Leary nor Phalen were injured, police said.
Saw Mill Road
About 7:32 am on December 20, motorist Geoffry Curtis, 43, of Danbury was driving a SUV near 33 Saw Mill Road, when a deer entered the street, resulting in collision with the vehicle, police said. Curtis was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Moving Violations
Police said they stopped motorist Richard Greenawalt, 46, of 195 Riverside Road about 9 pm on December 27 for not coming to a complete stop at an unspecified stop sign.
After investigating, police charged Greenawalt with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving with a suspended license.
Police released Greenawalt on a written promise to appear on January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.
Sandy Hook Center
Police report they stopped motorist Marvin Taylor, 26, of 193 Brushy Hill Road on Washington Avenue about 11:16 am December 28, after Taylor had allegedly failed to stop at a traffic signal in Sandy Hook Center.
Police said they charged Taylor with failure to obey a traffic control signal and with driving with a suspended license.
Taylor was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 11.
Burglary/Larceny
Police received a report this week that a burglary/larceny had occurred at a residential property on Frontage Road.
Frontage Road is a dead-end street that extends from Currituck Road and runs parallel to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84.
Someone pried a lock off a garage door and then entered the garage, where they stole a tool set and a leaf blower. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station, 203-426-5841.
Sugar Street Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred in front of 126 Sugar Street at about 7:48 am on December 21.
Motorist Carrie Cabral, 46, of 126 Sugar Street was backing a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan out of her driveway, as trucker Andrew Verno, 23, of Middlebury was driving a 2005 Isuzu box truck on Sugar Street, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cabral a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
