Artist’s Reception Planned

For Sunday Afternoon

The public is invited to an art show featuring the work of Nicole Kaza, a Newtown High School senior who creates works in myriad media.

An artist’s reception will begin at 2 pm on Sunday, January 2, at South Main Deli, 150 South Main Street in Newtown (telephone 426-8499). The artist’s reception will run until 3 pm, and then the artwork will remain on view Monday and Tuesday, January 3-4. The deli is open during the week from 5 am until 4 pm.

Sunday’s opening will highlight an eclectic mix of pieces by Miss Kaza, including pencil sketches and a 3-D self-portrait.

Other works will utilize ink and implied lines, paint, various sketches and a wide array of mixed media. Guests will enjoy Miss Kaza’a unique sense of style and her ability to blend life experience with a variety of materials.

Miss Kaza is a strong individualist. In addition to her visual arts talent she has accomplishments in music including five years with Greater Bridgeport Youth Symphony and two years with Hamden Symphony. She is an advanced piano, voice and music theory student of Elisabet Torolphi of New Milford (and Sweden).

Miss Kaza’a love of theater was most recently highlighted when she played the role of the queen in the NHS Drama Club production of Snow White presented last month. She was also Roxy Barns in Knock ‘Em Dead and has been seen in other drama productions at the high school.

Miss Kaza’s civic awards include The Silver Award from Girl Scouts of America, The Presidential Community Service Award, and a pin and congratulatory letter from the regional Rails To Trails committee for her work cleaning and maintaining the local trail that runs from Newtown to Trumbull.

Miss Kaza’s name appears regularly on the Newtown High School honor roll.
