Struck Guardrail
Newtown Police report Casey Becker, 45, of Pleasant Valley, New York, operating a 2023 Audi LL, was traveling southbound on Great Ring Road at 8:39 am December 3. The car slid on the road and off the driveway it was attempting to enter and struck a small wooden guardrail, coming to a rest with the rear of the vehicle partially in the roadway.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Janet Ambrisco, of New Haven, operating a 2021 Nissan Murano, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 6:15 pm December 3. She was traveling behind a 2023 Toyota Rav4 operated by Sierra Cardona, 46, of Monroe. Ambrisco rear-ended Cardona’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Ambrisco was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Drove Into Ditch
Newtown Police report Theresa Carcaldi, 27, of Brookfield, operating a 2011 Ford Edge, was traveling on Currituck Road at 8:14 pm December 3. Carcaldi swerved off the icy roadway to avoid rear-ending another vehicle, and drove into a ditch.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Slid Into Stone Wall
Newtown Police report Karim Ahmadi, 30, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Jeep Liberty, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road at 9:10 pm December 3. While traveling down a hill, Ahmadi lost control of the vehicle, slid off the road and struck a stone wall.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Evading Vehicle Sought
Newtown Police are investigating a collision in which a light blue vehicle struck a vehicle parked on Overlook Knoll Road in Sandy Hook during the overnight hours of December 3 to December 4. The vehicle that was struck was dark blue in color.
Police are asking for assistance from the public to help identify the vehicle and its operator.

Slid On Ice
Newtown Police report Christina Reynolds, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Toyota Sienna, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 9:12 am December 4. While negotiating a curve near Greenbriar Lane, Reynolds lost control of her vehicle due to ice on the roadway and spun 180 degrees, crossed over the southbound lane and came to a rest on the southbound shoulder.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Reynolds was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Frances Wengart, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2007 Ford Fusion, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 6:02 pm December 4. She was traveling behind a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan operated by Leslie Troy, 59, of Sandy Hook. Troy stopped at a traffic control signal and Wengart stopped behind. Wengart said her foot slipped from the brake and onto the gas, and her vehicle struck Troy’s.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Wengart was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Anthony Veliz, 19, of Stamford, operating a 2014 Honda Civic, was traveling eastbound on Swamp Road at 12:34 am December 5. While negotiating a left-hand curve, Veliz’s vehicle traveled off the roadway right, sustaining functional damage.
No injuries were reported. Veliz’s vehicle was towed.
Veliz was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Slid Into Two Cars
Newtown Police report Milton Marin, 37, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Ford Explorer, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 7:15 am December 5. Timothy Barber, 64, of Stratford, operating a 2006 Chrysler 300c, and Yojaira Estevez-Torres, 41, of New Haven, operating a 2018 Nissan Altima, were both traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Marin’s vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the northbound lane of traffic, and began to slide sideways downhill towards Barber’s and Estevez-Torres’ vehicles, striking the front ends of both vehicles.
Barber sustained a possible minor injury but refused transport. Estevez-Torres’ vehicle was towed, but not due to damage.
Marin was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
Start And Stop Leads To Collision
Newtown Police report Trevor Scheff, 47, of Kennett Square, Penn., was traveling northbound on Key Rock Road at 4:14 pm December 5. He was traveling behind a 2023 Toyota Corolla operated by Jeanette Smith, 36, of Middletown. Smith stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Sugar Street, and Scheff stopped behind. Smith began to move forward but then stopped again, and Scheff rear-ended her vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Scheff was issued a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.
Slid Off Road Into Mailbox And Fence
Newtown Police report Pedro Tavares, 37, of Danbury, operating a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling eastbound on Scudder Road at 1 pm December 6. While negotiating a right-hand curve in the roadway, the vehicle slid off the left-hand side, striking a wooden fence and mailbox.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Tavares was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive right.
Hit Parked Pickup
Newtown Police report Domingo Quiles, 71, of Fairfield, operating a 2008 Toyota Tundra, was traveling westbound in the parking lot of Stop & Shop at 3:35 pm December 7. While attempting to turn into a parking space, Quiles’ vehicle struck a 2011 Ford F150 owned by Kelly Quinn of Sandy Hook.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Bad Brakes
Newtown Police report Miriam Limata, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Toyota Venza, was attempting to enter a garage at a residence on Woods Lane at 3:41 pm December 7, when the brakes failed, causing the vehicle to strike the northern garage wall. Limata then attempted to reverse the vehicle, striking an unoccupied 2007 Infiniti M25 owned by Michael Limata of Newtown that was parked in the driveway.
No injuries were reported. The vehicles were not towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Struck Parked Car, Mailbox, Post
Newtown Police report Kayla Wadell, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Nissan Sentra, was traveling southbound on Pomperaug Road at 6:15 pm December 7. A 2012 Mazda 6 owned by Brendan Damato, of Newtown was parked, unoccupied, facing southbound on Pomperaug Road. Wadell struck Damato’s vehicle and then struck a mailbox and post at a nearby driveway.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Wadell was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.
Porsche Backs Into Hyundai
Newtown Police report Paulette Huray-McDermott, 75, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Porche Macan, was attempting to back out of a parking space in the lot of 105 Church Hill Road at 6:29 pm December 7. While backing, Huray-McDermott backed into a 2019 Hyundai Elantra owned by Michelle Sawin of Brookfield.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Hit Making Left Turn
Newtown Police report Sunitha Mukka, 49, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2006 Toyota Camry, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:20 pm December 9. She was traveling behind a 2014 Kia Forte operated by Traci Savage, 25, of Waterbury. Savage attempted to turn left into Plaza South and Mukka rear-ended her vehicle.
Savage reported a minor injury but declined transport. Both vehicles were towed.
Mukka was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a driveway.
