Slid Into Stopped Car
Newtown Police report Alexander Adilson, 34, of Beltsville, Md., operating a 2022 Ram TRD, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 9:31 pm December 3. Diane Saraceni, 52, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Infiniti QX30, was stopped on the northbound shoulder of Toddy Hill Road, due to slippery conditions. Adilson attempted to pass Saraceni’s vehicle but ended up sliding into the driver’s side of Saraceni’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Adilson was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Andrew Kelly, 31, of Fairfield, operating a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 12:45 am December 14. Kelly’s vehicle veered off the roadway to the right, crossed over High Rock Road and struck a tree on the roadside.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Kelly was given a verbal warning for failure to drive right.
Hit Car In Other Lane
Newtown Police report Victor Ellul, 44, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, was traveling west on Berkshire Road in the left lane of traffic. Heidi Werner, 50, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling west on Berkshire Road in the right lane of traffic. The side of Ellul’s vehicle made contact with the side of Werner’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Ellul received a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Collision At Traffic Light
Newtown Police report Joseph Boccuzzi, 50, of Fairfield, operating a 2016 Toyota Camry, was traveling on Wasserman Way at 5 pm December 15. Munaswamy Kilaari, 40, of Bridgeport, operating a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road. Boccuzzi attempted to turn left onto Berskhire Road as Kilaari attempted to travel straight through the intersection at a green light, and the vehicles collided.
No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.
Boccuzzi was issued an infraction for failure to obey a traffic control signal. Kilaari was issued an infraction for not possessing an operator’s license, as he only had a learner’s permit and had no instructor in the vehicle.
Hit Vehicle Entering Lot
Newtown Police report Graceanne Herrick, 25, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300, was attempting to leave the parking lot of the Mobil Gas Station on Church Hill Road at 5:03 pm December 15. Anthony Delvento, 33, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Ram Truck 1500, was traveling eastbound in the left most travel lane of Church Hill Road. Herrick turned from the lot onto Church Hill Road and struck Delvento’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Herrick’s vehicle was towed.
Herrick was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a private road and operation of a motor vehicle while using a cellphone.
Outlander Hits Civic
Newtown Police report Timothy Albright, 69, of Palm City, Fla., operating a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, was traveling northbound in the parking lot of 16 Commerce Road, approaching Commerce Road, at 10:49 am December 16. Connie Chapin, 65, of New Milford, operating a 2021 Honda Civic, was attempting to turn right into 16 Commerce Road from Commerce Road. The vehicles collided.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Unregistered Vehicle
Newtown Police report Maria Divito, 41, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Infiniti QX60, was traveling north on South Main Street at 11:56 am December 16. She was traveling behind a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder operated by Daryl Harris, 58, of Waterbury. Harris stopped for traffic ahead and Divito did not stop in time, rear-ending Harris’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Divito was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Christopher Beal, 23, of Newtown, operating a 2003 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 12:15 pm December 16. He was traveling behind a 2019 Hyundai Sonata operated by Janice Markey, 54, of Newtown. Markey stopped to allow non-contact vehicles to exit a driveway. Beal did not stop in time, and his vehicle rear-ended Markey’s vehicle.
Markey complained of a minor injury but refused transport. Neither vehicle was towed.
Beal was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Incident At 84 Off-Ramp
Newtown Police report Janet Gaulard, 78, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Toyota Rav4, was traveling on the Interstate 84 West exit 9 off ramp at 9:42 am December 18. Richard Paez, 34, of Meriden, operating a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling south on Hawleyville Road. While turning left, Gaulard’s vehicle made contact with Paez’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Gaulard was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.
Rear-Ended On Sugar Street
Newtown Police report Jared Bradley, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2009 Honda CR-V, was traveling west on Sugar Street at 12:06 pm December 18. He was traveling behind a 2017 Jeep Wrangler operated by Shayne Bingham, 32, of Southbury. Bingham stopped in traffic for a vehicle ahead turning left. Bradley did not stop in time and the front of his vehicle made contact with the rear of Bingham’s vehicle.
A passenger in Bradley’s vehicle complained of a minor injury but refused transport. Bradley’s vehicle was towed.
Bradley was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Manan Barnwal, 18, of Brookfield, operating a 2008 Lexus ES 350, was traveling on Hawleyville Road at 6:23 pm December 18. He was traveling behind a 2021 Honda Pilot operated by Luis Garcia Castro, 50, of Newtown. Garcia Castro stopped in the lane to make a left turn onto Farrell Road and Barnwal rear-ended his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Barnwal’s vehicle was towed.
Barnwal was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to carry a driver’s license.
