By Andrew Gorosko
REDDING â A Newtown woman died following a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Christmas on Marchant Road, Redding police said.
Police said that they are investigating the crash that happened about 12:40 pm on Marchant Road, near its intersection with Simpaug Turnpike, in which passenger Annemarie Avetisyan, 48, of Hattertown Road, Newtown, died.
Police said that Ms Avetisyanâs husband, Alexey Avetisyan, 45, of Hattertown Road, was driving the 2006 Nissan Murano SUV involved in the accident. Also in the vehicle was the Avetisyanâs 5-year-old son whom police did not name.
While traveling on Marchant Road, the Nissan went off the roadway and then struck a tree, police said. The impact caused Ms Avetisyan to be ejected from the SUV, after which it rolled over onto her, trapping her, police said.
Ms Avetisyan was transported to Danbury Hospital in âextremely serious conditionâ where she was later pronounced dead, police said. Also, Alexey Avetisyan and the coupleâs son were transported to the hospital following the crash.
Alexey Avetisyan was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, December 27, a hospital spokeswoman said.
No medical information about the boy was available from the hospital. Police said that the boy received ânon-life-threatening injuriesâ in the accident.
Police said that the circumstances of the accident are under investigation. They ask anyone who saw the vehicle traveling in Redding before the accident to contact police Officer Tim Succi or Sergeant Peter Quinn at the Redding Police Department at 203-938-3400.
