Louisa Fennell

Member And Volunteer At St Rose

Louisa Fennell, 94, died December 26 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Mrs Fennell was a former resident of Newtown and New York City. She was a member of St Rose of Lima Church.

Born May 3, 1911, in County Clare, Ireland, Louisa was the daughter of James and Louisa (Honan) Coughlin.

She is survived by six children, Mary Louise Dunkley of Waretown, N.J., Bernadette Herr of Warner, N.H., Joan Dolan of Gaithersburg, Md., Susan Ryan of Oradell, N.J., Irene Gallagher of Valley Forge, Penn., and Laura Gilhooly of Stanfordville, N.Y.; a sister, Theresa Kehoe of Ireland; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs Fennel was predeceased by her husband, John J. Fennell.

Mrs Fennell worked as a nanny after her immigration from Ireland. She was proud of her heritage and her adopted country. She volunteered in her children’s schools and her church.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 28 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home Chapel, Rhinebeck. Burial will be Friday, 1 pm, in the St Rose Cemetery, Newtown.

 Memorial donations may be made to Covenant House, 346 West 17th Street, New York NY 10011-5020 or to Ferncliff Nursing Home, 21 Ferncliff Drive, Rhinebeck NY 12572.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market Street, Rhinebeck.
