To the Editor:

I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the Newtown community for all the generous donations received for holiday care packages for hospitalized veterans and their medical staff at the West Haven VA Hospital.

I would also like to thank Newtown High School, Newtown Community Center, and Newtown Senior Center for being collection sites for the donations.

I received over 700 items such as calendars, playing cards, soft blankets, toiletries, and holiday decorations.

I was able to put together over 80 stockings and gift bags for the veterans and the remaining items will also be distributed to the veterans.

The VA hospital was overwhelmed by our community’s generosity.

Thank you for helping the veterans feel remembered and appreciated during this holiday season.
