Support The Western CT Red Cross

To the Editor:

The Western Connecticut Charter of the American Red Cross, located on 2 Terrace Place in Danbury, is valuable to the public in so many ways. As a former Red cross volunteer I became aware of the scope of its mission and the dedication the staff has for the work that they do. Some of the valuable services they provide to the general public include disaster services, health and safety education, blood donation services, Lifeline, and the Red Cross Wheels Program.

As a volunteer, I answered phones and spoke to many in the community who called for the medical transportation services of the Wheels program. The individuals who needed assistance in getting to their doctors and other medical appointments found the Wheels program a reliable and necessary service. Funds are needed now to continue this program.

I now use the Red Cross Wheels program because of a recent handicap and I am unable to drive. I can speak with firsthand experience to the merits of this program. Knowing this service is available to me gives me confidence that I am able to keep any appointments that are necessary for my health and well-being.

The cost of these services is increasing and I hope that funds will be made available through public donations to the Western CT Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Sincerely,

Georgette Morey
