P&Z Members Reelect

William O’Neil As Chairman

By Andrew Gorosko

Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) members have reelected Republican William O’Neil to another one-year term as the land use agency’s chairman.

Near the close of the panel’s December 21 session, P&Z members unanimously elected Mr O’Neil to the post, without other nominations or opposition. Mr O’Neil did not attend the session held at the town offices at Peck’s Lane.

Democrat Lilla Dean, who has served as the agency’s secretary for the past several years, nominated Mr O’Neil for the chairmanship, with the motion seconded by Republican alternate member Robert Mulholland.

Also voting in favor of Mr O’Neil were Democrat Robert Poulin, Republican Jane Brymer, and Democratic alternate P&Z member Philip Cruz.

Besides Mr O’Neil, absent from the P&Z session were Republican Sten Wilson, and Republican alternate member Dennis Bloom.

Mr O’Neil, who became a P&Z member in late 2001, has been the chairman since August 2002.

Ms Brymer nominated Ms Dean for the post of vice chairman. Ms Dean chaired the December 21 session in Mr O’Neil’s absence. Ms Dean, whose nomination was seconded by Mr Cruz, was elected as vice chairman without other nominations or opposition.

Mr Wilson has served as the panel’s vice chairman for the past several years.

Ms Dean then nominated Ms Brymer for the post of secretary. Ms Brymer was elected without other nominations or opposition.

P&Z members also named Ann Mazur to serve as the agency’s administrative clerk for a one-year term.

The commission has five regular members and three alternate members. Three Republicans and two Democrats comprise the regular membership. The panel has two Republican alternates and one Democratic alternate.

Alternate members vote on P&Z decisions in the absence of regular members.
