DANBURY â Danbury Music Centre music groups will begin rehearsals for the remaining concerts in the 2006-07 season during the week of January 8. Potential members are invited to contact the music center for additional information on joining the various groups.
Danbury Concert Chorus, a 100-voice chorus, has openings in all sections. This chorus is dedicated to the highest amateur performance standards and the finest in choral literature. Rehearsals are Tues evenings and will resume on January 9.
The next DCC performance will include Mendelssohnâs Elijah on May 12.
Experienced singers, or even instrumentalists who would enjoy participating in a choral situation, are encouraged to join. There are no auditions. Tenors are especially welcome. Music Director Richard Price is in his fifth season with the chorus.
Danbury Symphony Orchestra begins rehearsals on Monday, January 8. There are openings in all string sections; wind and percussion players may sign up to be placed on the wait list.
In addition to Elijah in May with DCC, the orchestra will perform a âConcert For Young Peopleâ on February 4 which will include âThe Thrill of the Orchestraâ by contemporary composer Russell Peck. In March the orchestra will perform works of Gershwin, Debussy, and Dvorak. The symphony will also play for the annual gala fundraiser, âEvening in Paris,â on March 30.
Danbury Symphony Orchestra is comprised of 65 highly trained musicians who perform both as an avocation as well as professionally. Admission is by invitation. Ariel Rudiakov is the music director and conductor of DSO.
Danbury Community Orchestra has a membership of 80 musicians, half teenagers and half adults. Stephen Michael Smith is the music director and conductor. Rehearsals are on
Wednesday evenings and admission is by audition. There are several vacancies in DCO including one horn opening, one bassoon opening, two viola openings, and two cello openings.
The orchestra will be playing work of Wagner, Beethoven and Borodin in its next concert, scheduled for May 6. Call for an audition appointment or to be placed on a wait list.
The Danbury Preparatory String Orchestra meets on Thursday nights and is under the direction of Glen Lebetkin. This is a training orchestra for string players of all ages who have had limited orchestral experience.
There are openings in all sections â violin, viola, celli, and bass. Membership is by registration.
