New Milford Hospital Posts January Events

NEW MILFORD — New Milford Hospital is offering a number of health and wellness activities for patients and those in the community in January. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Except where otherwise directed, contact the hospital’s Social Work Department for program details or registration at 860-210-7442.

January 2, 16, 30; Interfaith Chapel: Reiki, 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the principle that life force energy flows through all. Reiki practitioner is Mary Ellen Foster, RN. For cancer patients and their families.

January 4, 11, 18, 25; Robison Room A: CARES Cancer Support Group, 11 am to noon. Cancer Rehabilitation Education Support (CARES), for cancer patients and their families.

January 4, 11, 18, 25; Robison Room B: Prenatal Yoga, 6 to 7:15 pm. Certified yoga instructor Jennifer Pote holds 75-minute classes to nurture energy and restore balance, release the lower back and align the body. Classes meet weekly on Thursdays. Preregistration required; fee; call Family Birthing Center, 860-350-7248.

January 5, 19; Robison Room B: Chair Yoga, 10:30 am to 11:30 am, with Trish McDonald, RN. Relaxation techniques for cancer patients and their families. Reservations requested but not required.

January 6, 13, 20, 27: Postpartum Yoga, 10 to 11:15 am. Certified yoga instructor Jennifer Pote holds 75-minute classes to nurture energy and restore balance, release the lower back and align the body. Classes meet weekly on Saturdays. Preregistration required; fee, call Family Birthing Center, 860-350-7248.

January 10, 24; Robison Room A: Guided Imagery, 10:30 to 11:30 am. Imagery and breathing techniques to manage stress and pain. For cancer patients and their families. Facilitated by Gayle Pantaleo, LCSW.

January 12, Interfaith Chapel: Healing Drum Circle, 10 to 11 am. Explore the universal healing power of the drum. This drumming circle will focus on healing through sound and rhythm. No experience necessary, drums and other percussion instruments will be provided. For cancer patients and their families. Led by Dave Wonsey.

January 21, Interfaith Chapel: Nondenominational Healing Service, 6 to 7 pm. A service focusing on spiritual healing with the Reverend Gail Paul, Oratory of the Little Way; all are welcome. Meets third Sunday of the month.

January 31, Robison Conference Rooms: Northwest Connecticut Stroke Survivors Support Group 6:30 to 8 pm. A support group for stroke victims, facilitated by Guido Tino, stroke survivor and EMT. Meets last Wednesday of the month. Blood pressures taken at each meeting. For more information contact Guido Tino at 860-355-0846.
