January Community Programs Posted By Bridgeport Hospital

Blood Pressure Screenings. Bridgeport Hospital has scheduled free blood pressure screenings at the following locations and times:

*Trumbull Library, 33 Quality Street, January 2, 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

*Bridgeport North Branch Library, 3455 Madison Avenue, January 8, 1 to 2:30 pm.

*Middlebrook Farms, 2750 Reservoir Avenue, Trumbull, January 16,12:30 to 2:30 pm.

*Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler Street, January 22,12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Better Breathing Club. The Better Breathing Club will meet 1:30 pm January 26 in Bridgeport Hospital’s first-floor duPont Board Room. The club provides educational and emotional support for people with chronic respiratory conditions. For information, call toll free 888-357-2396.

Ostomy Support. The United Ostomy Chapter of Greater Bridgeport will meet 2 pm January 21 at the offices of Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut, 40 Lindeman Drive, Trumbull. Meetings, which include an educational session and business meeting, are open to all area residents who have had any type of ostomy operation, including a colostomy, urostomy, or ileostomy. First Aid And Safety Classes. Bridgeport Hospital’s Emergency Care Institute will offer the following self-care class in the duPont Board Room at Bridgeport Hospital, 267 Grant Street. To register, call 203-384-4497.

*American Heart Association Adult, Child and Infant CPR; January 10, 6 to 9 pm; cost, $45.

*Pediatric First Aid/Safety and American Heart Association Infant and Child CPR; January 13 and 27, 8:30 am to 5 pm. Cost: $45 (first aid only); $75 (full class).

*Administration of Medicine; January 9 and 23; 6 to 9 pm. Cost: $25; $15 injectable only.

Senior Driving Course. AARP’s Senior Driver Safety Program will be offered January 6 and 13, 9 am to 1 pm, in the first-floor duPont Board Room at Bridgeport Hospital, 267 Grant Street The fee of $10 covers handouts and instructional materials. To register, call toll free 888-357-2396. Classes are taught by trained AARP instructors. Successful completion may entitle seniors to a discount on automobile insurance premiums.

Smoking Cessation Program. Bridgeport Hospital will offer its next series of QuitSmart smoking cessation classes January 16, January 30, February 6 and 13, 6 to 7:30 pm, in the hospital’s Operations Conference Room, 267 Grant Street. The tuition of $75 covers all four classes and the QuitSmart stop-smoking kit. Free parking is available in the Agnes and Ernie Kaulbach Parking Pavilion outside the main entrance.
