Drug Possession

Police said that at about 11:15 pm on December 21, they received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the dead-end Williams Lane, off Poverty Hollow Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

Several youths had gathered in the area and an investigation revealed that one person was in possession of drugs, according to police.

Police charged Andrew Heller, 20, of 6 Reservoir Road with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Heller on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on January 9.

Wallet Missing

A person lost a large brown wallet on December 21 at the Church Hill Gas Stop gas station at 47 Church Hill Road, police said. Police ask that if the wallet is found, it be turned over to them at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Marijuana

At about 7:50 pm on December 22, police stopped motorist Sean Wilson, 21, of 55 High Rock Road on Boggs Hill Road because the vehicle that Wilson was driving had an expired registration sticker on its rear marker plate.

Police said they had their German shepherd sniff the exterior of the vehicle and the dog indicated that drugs were inside. Following an investigation, police charged Wilson with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with a vehicle registration violation.

Wilson was released on $50 bail for a January 4 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

About 6 pm December 20, police spotted motorist Dennis P. Topo, Jr, 36, of Middletown driving a 2003 Toyota pickup truck southward on South Main Street at the traffic signal for the northern entrance to Sand Hill Plaza. Topo, who was in a “right turn only” lane, drove straight through the intersection, police report.

Police stopped Topo to investigate and then charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to obey state traffic signs and markings.

After he posted $50 bail, police released Topo for a January 4 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 9 pm on December 22, they spotted motorist Joseph C. Miller, 36, of 21 Park Lane driving southward on Queen Street with only his parking lights on, so they observed his course of travel.

Police said they stopped Miller on South Main Street, near Lovell’s Lane, to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to illuminate headlamps.

After he posted $50 bail, police released Miller for a January 12 court appearance.

Street Signs

At about 1 am on December 25, police charged William Brooks, 18, of 7 Stonegate Drive with sixth degree larceny for the alleged theft of street signs from the intersection of Pearl Street and Charlie’s Circle in the Tilson Woods residential subdivision.

Police released Brooks on a written promise to appear in court on January 9.

CL&P Substation

Police report that sometime between December 3 and 12, someone forced entry into the Connecticut Light & Power Company’s electrical substation at 107 South Main Street by cutting open the links on a chain-link fence.

Police said that the intruder stole a large reel of copper and also took several copper pipes from a fenced area. Copper has a high resale value as scrap metal.

The crimes committed include larceny, criminal trespassing, and criminal mischief.

Police ask anyone with information on the crimes to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Brookfield Man

Police said that at about 10:30 am December 21, they stopped motorist Philippe Pirotte, 41, of Brookfield on Church Hill Road for a marker plate violation.

Police charged Pirotte with improper display of a marker plate and with driving with a suspended license. After he posted $100 bail, police released Pirotte for a January 2 court appearance.

Dodge Vs Dog

Motorist David Marchetti, 40, of South Main Street was driving a 2003 Dodge sedan northward near 65 South Main Street about 8:48 pm December 22, when a dog entered the roadway and walked in front of his oncoming auto, police said.

The dog and the auto collided. The injured dog was transported to a veterinarian for medical treatment, police said. Police took no enforcement against Marchetti.

Mercedes Vs Pontiac

Police report a two-car accident on Mt Pleasant Road about 10:13 am December 13.

Motorist Kim Ruffles, 39, of 2 Saw Mill Road, who was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand-Am, was attempting to make a right turn into a driveway, when motorist Allan Sarn, 73, of 145 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1995 Mercedes-Benz E-320 sedan, attempted to pass the Pontiac on the right, police said. The two cars collided. The Pontiac was at the road’s center line when it had attempted to make the turn, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Sarn received a written warning for improper passing and Ruffles received a written warning for making an improper turn.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 7 am December 21.

Police said motorist Erica Federman, 17, of 127 Poverty Hollow Road, who was driving a 2002 Volvo sedan southward on South Main Street, was attempting to turn left onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, as motorist Todd Bolmer, Jr, 21, of 31 Swamp Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota pickup truck northward on South Main Street, was attempting to turn right onto eastbound Mile Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided, but the drivers provided conflicting accounts of what had occurred, resulting in no enforcement action being taken, police said. There were no injuries.

Audi TT Coupe

Police report that about 7:30 pm on December 16, motorist Luke Magill, 19, of 10 Great Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Audi TT coupe southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, encountered a deer that had entered the road.

Magill attempted to avoid hitting the animal, but the Audi went off the right side of the road and collided with a tree in the front yard at 190 Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

Both Magill and Audi passenger Noah Kugielsky, 18, of 6 Bridle Path Trail were wearing seatbelts and were not injured, police said. Police issued Magill a written warning for making a restricted turn.

South Main Collision

About 1 pm December 20, motorist Lindsay Johanson, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 1996 Honda coupe northward on South Main Street, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Roxie Define, 84, of 3 Nunnawauk Road, who was driving a 1988 Oldsmobile sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Define a written warning for following too closely.

Hawleyville Accident

A two-car accident occurred on December 12 at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville Road, according to police.

In that collision, motorist Kenneth Brown, 72, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Mercedes-Benz sedan, drove into the rear end of a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker driven by Hassan Babollah, 53, of Bridgeport, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Brown was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Swamp Road

Police said that motorist Anthony Goncalves, 35, of 3 Old Zoar Road, who was driving a 1988 Ford truck on Swamp Road about 1:20 am December 21, was attempting to turn around when the truck rolled over onto its passenger side, striking a tree along the road shoulder. Botsford firefighters went to the scene.

Ambulance volunteers transported Goncalves to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Police issued Goncalves an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Nissan Vs Jeep

Motorist Luz Martinez, 46, of 22 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 1994 Jeep northward near 109 South Main Street about 7 am December 22, when she stopped for traffic conditions, police report.

Northbound motorist Chia Ung, 35, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Nissan sedan, then struck the Jeep from behind, police said.

Martinez was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Ung received an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Buick Vs Toyota

Motorist Jennifer Chion, 27, of 10 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 2005 Toyota Prius sedan westward on Mile Hill Road and approaching its intersection with Queen Street at about 9:30 am December 7, police said.

At that time, motorist John Miller, 75, of 3 Nunnawauk Road, who was driving a 1996 Buick Park Avenue sedan, was making a left turn from southbound Queen Street onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection. There were no injuries. Police said Miller told them he did not see the approaching Toyota due to bright sun conditions. Miller received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Chrysler Off Road

Motorist Danielle Petrella, 16, of Housatonic Drive was driving a 1998 Chrysler convertible westward on Old Green Road about 7:45 pm on December 23, when she lost control of the auto and drove across the intersection of Old Green Road and Horseshoe Ridge Road, police said.

The Chrysler came to rest off the side of Horseshoe Ridge Road, police said. Police issued Petrella an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Currituck Road

At about 2:45 pm December 20, Michael Nash, 41, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Freightliner fuel tanker truck, was stopped and waiting at a stop sign on Currituck Road at its intersection with Main Street, when a green sport-utility vehicle, which had been traveling northward on Main Street at high speed, turned right onto Currituck Road and struck the tanker truck, but continued onward, according to police.

Nash was not injured. Anyone with information about the identity of the SUV driver is asked to contact police at 426-5841.

Mercedes-Benz Damaged

On the morning of December 17, an Easton woman returned to her unoccupied, parked 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML-320 sport-utility vehicle in the Sand Hill Plaza parking lot at 228 South Main Street and discovered that some motorist had driven into her SUV and then left the scene without reporting the incident, police said. The Mercedes has a damaged fender and bumper.

The vehicle that hit the Mercedes apparently is white, based on paint evidence, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the case to contact them at 426-5841.

I-84 Crash

State police report that at about 1:50 pm December 25, motorist Robert Bates, 42, of Brookfield was driving a Mazda MX-6 eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, when a red Ford Mustang reportedly cut him off and Bates lost control of the Mazda, resulting in an accident.

Ambulance volunteers transported Bates to Danbury Hospital for treatment of pain, state police said.

An investigation indicated that the Mazda’s brakes were defective, state police said.

State police charged Bates with reckless driving, driving while under suspension, and driving with defective brakes.

I-84 Accident

About 11:25 am December 18, motorist Vanessa Courchene-Roy, 16, of 3 Pumpkin Lane, who was driving a 1993 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, attempted to change travel lanes, but due to traffic conditions, had to swerve back into her original lane, resulting in the Honda going out of control and becoming involved in an accident, state police said.

Courchene-Roy received a hand injury. State police said she made a lane violation.

SUV Crash

About 10 am December 23, motorist Carl R. Savoia, Jr, 38, of 7 River Run Road, who was driving a 1998 Ford sport-utility vehicle on the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84, lost control of the SUV on the wet roadway, resulting in a collision with the median guardrail, state police said.

Savoia was not injured. State police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Moving Violations

On the evening of December 23, police charged motorist Matthew DeLuca, 20, of 2 Elm Drive with failure to display a front marker plate and with driving while under suspension.

Police then released DeLuca on a written promise to appear for an upcoming court appearance.

DUI Arrest

About 1 am December 27, motorist William Butler, 21, of 78 Waterview Drive, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro eastward on Church Hill Road, just east of its intersection with Queen Street, lost control of the auto, crossed the road’s center line, struck curbing along the westbound road shoulder, hit a road sign, and then stopped moving well off the road, in front of Hawley Road, police report.

Butler was not injured. After an investigation, police charged Butler with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Butler on $100 bail for a January 11 court appearance.
