A Dangerous Intersection
A Dangerous Intersection
To the Editor:
On Friday, December 22, I was reminded of the danger of the flagpole intersection, especially in the late afternoon and when traffic is heavy. Individuals going south on 25 seem to think that there are two lanes on Main Street, one for those turning and another for individuals continuing past the flagpole. This is not the case â there is one lane for both purposes. Individuals trying to go across or turn left from Church Hill Road are trapped at the flagpole as cars speed by in the âfakeâ southbound lane.
In any plan for traffic changes this dangerous practice must be addressed. If the traffic change plan is going to take time to be resolved then this issue should be addressed immediately. The only times I have seen this controlled is when there is a police car parked southbound on Main Street before the flagpole or if cars are parked in front of the Flagpole Realty building.
