Gift Assists Hearing-Impaired Students

Newtown resident Joe Skrzypczak recently donated $4,000 to Newtown schools for the purchase of an assisted hearing device. Mr Skrzypczak is president and CEO of Océ North America, a global leader of digital document management technology and services, headquartered in Trumbull.

The donation will enable the school district to install the assisted hearing device at Newtown High School to assist hearing impaired students and all residents to participate in activities in the high school auditorium.

Director of Business Ronald J. Bienkowski said, “We welcome the use of school facilities by the many organizations in town, and this gift will allow us to accommodate those with hearing loss.”

Equipment will also be installed in the Newtown Middle School auditorium. As funds become available, the Board of Education hopes to provide Reed Intermediate School, the town’s three elementary schools, and the Board of Education’s meeting room with assistive listening devices.
