Sam Diaspro broke Newtown High School’s single-game 3-point record with seven shots from beyond the arc in Newtown’s 75-35 win at Cromwell on December 20. The record was previously held by Izzy Caron and Cailin Wilson with Caron twice tying the mark, including in an effort last season.
Diaspro scored a career high 37 points behind a solid all-around effort featuring a 10-for-10 free throw shooting performance, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists.
In the win over Cromwell, Ana Morris scored 13 points and added eight assists; Ava Rochester had seven points and ten rebounds; Cassie Pickering logged ten rebounds; Mo Murphy had six points, six rebounds, and three assists; and Addy Cordova had five rebounds and five steals.
The Nighthawks were coming off a 37-33 loss to East Lyme two nights earlier and carry a record of 2-2 into the New Year. Newtown now gets into conference play and is home Friday, January 3, when defending South-West Conference Champion New Milford visits at 5:30 pm.
