Tania Domingos Is An All-American

By Andy Hutchison

The soccer season may be over, but the accolades are still rolling in for Newtown High School senior Tania Domingos, whom the National Soccer Coaches Association Of America selected as an All-American.

Domingos is one of just four players from the state chosen. The recognition is based on performance on the field. The midfielder had eight goals and six assists this past season and finished her Newtown High career with 50 goals and 37 assists.

Players are selected by a committee which evaluates them over the course of the season and the selection is based on statistics and accolades such as the All-State and All-New England awards, both of which Domingos earned in each her junior and senior years.

“It’s amazing. I think there are so many people who deserve it,” said Domingos, pointing to teammate Kasey Schulz, who received a scholarship to play at Fairfield University, as one of those qualified players. “She more than deserves it.”

Schulz had 64 career goals but Domingos certainly earned the recognition though hard work and the success she achieved.

“I am happy that Tania was able to win this award, as it has been a dream of hers and her family’s for the past few years. She has completed a fine individual career at Newtown,” NHS Coach Marc Kenney said. “She was able to combine a very strong technical game with a tactical awareness that made those around her better. I wish her luck as she prepares for both athletics and academics at the next level.”

Domingos plays for the Connecticut United Football Club’s U18 premier team and will play at the University of Delaware next fall.

“I’m ecstatic. I can’t wait,” she said.
